And the angel came in to her, and said, Hail, you that are highly favored, the Lord is with you: blessed are you among women. Luke 1:28
The bible clearly tells us that Mary was highly favored blessed amongst women.
Could you imagine how Mary felt when the angel bestowed such great affirmation on her life? She must have said,
“Joe scrap the backyard wedding–we’re getting married at the Jerusalem Hilton!!!”
Joseph replies, “Whoa Mary–this is not in the budget–this is borderline bridezilla behavior.”
When we go on to read the story, we see that Mary’s life was a train-wreck.
She had her baby in a stable (which tells me–don’t ever judge who is blessed and who is not blessed by outward circumstances).
So did the angel get it wrong?
Was he lying?
The word favor in the greek simply means ACCEPTED.
Ephesians 1:5 & 6 says, “Having predestined us to adoption as sons but Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us ACCEPTED in the Beloved.”
It says we are ACCEPTED in the Beloved. God has ACCEPTED us–we have been favored and it has nothing to do with our economic or social status here on earth. WE MUST ACCEPT BEING ACCEPTED. We are blessed and highly favored because we’ve been chosen from the beginning of time to be His children.
Do you struggle accepting that you are favored because your circumstances say otherwise? Know that He chose you–you didn’t choose Him and you only love Him because He first loved you.
ACCEPT today that God has a special purpose and plan for your life regardless of the season you’re in.
