Destiny seems to be the buzzword of the hour.
You go to conferences on destiny. People are writing books on the subject. I’m not hating on anybody writing a book on destiny. But we hear,
“God wants you to step into your destiny. Your destiny is right before you. Your destiny is right in front of you.”
That kind of preaching is very vague. You can leave a conference on destiny scratching your head and saying,
“Okay it sounds good. I’m all hyped up, but what exactly does that mean?”
I don’t know about you, but we’ve come to think of destiny as a place or a position.
In other words, because I co-pastor Christ Tabernacle that’s my destiny. No! That’s my role. Or because I wrote a book, that’s my destiny. No! That was my assignment.
The definition of destiny is the predetermined course of events, a deliberate plan, an advanced plan of design. This is not vague. This is something very concrete.
Your destiny and my destiny are the same destiny.
The time or place that might be different, but you and I have the same exact destiny. This is your destiny and my destiny. We were predestined to be conformed into the image of God (see last week’s blog).
That’s it!
That word conformed in Romans 8:29 means to make similar in form or character. The chief purpose of our salvation was Christlikeness. Everybody that gets saved has to be conformed. Everybody has to go through this inward transformation, which eventually will reflect our outward behavior.
When I get saved, God is thinking,
“What adjustments do I have to take? What measures do I have to make–to make her look like me? How do I get all the hell out of her so I can put all the heaven in her?”
God is not thinking,
“What do I have to do to get her book on the New York Times Best Seller List? What do I have to do to make her look amazing?”
The purpose and plan of God is that I would die so that He would live inside of me. When you view destiny in the light of God’s glory, everything changes.
Ephesians 1:4 says,
“For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.”
Question: What is one thing you can do today to start living out God’s destiny?
